Проаналізовано розвиток областей України, виявлено сучасні диспропорції регіонального розвитку і причини їх виникнення. Доведено, що в сучасних умовах проблема регіональної диференціації суттєво впливає на ефективність національної економіки. За результатами оцінки соціально-економічної диференціації областей України визначено три основні групи регіонів.Today it remains vital to ensuring an integrated and balanced functioning of the regions with the use of organizational, economic and legal instruments. Performing this task involves the study of regional differences in socio-economic development. The article examines the existing theoretical and methodological approaches to socio-economic typing of Ukrainian regions. The development of the regions of Ukraine identified the current imbalance of regional development and their causes. It is proved that in modern conditions the problem of regional differentiation significantly affects the efficiency of the national economy. The evaluation of socio-economic differentiation of the regions of Ukraine identified three main groups of regions. Thus, among the regions of Ukraine there is a significant territorial differentiation of socio-economic development.
