The issue of using generative artificial intelligence in higher education is currently highly relevant, as evidenced by numerous scientific studies and surveys on the tools, their opportunities, and risks of application in the educational process, and the administrative activities of higher education institutions. The authors were interested in students’ attitudes toward the use of artificial intelligence in learning, the technical and ethical implications of this, and the demand for relevant digital skills in the labor market. This article presents the results of a survey of economics students at Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence in the educational process. As evidenced by research findings from various foreign and Ukrainian universities and the aforementioned survey, the level of integration of generative artificial intelligence into students’ daily academic activities is extremely high. On the one hand, students view it as a tool for increasing productivity; on the other hand, they understand the ethical implications—such as its covert use during exams or when writing creative papers—and the risks of their own intellectual skills deteriorating. An important element of the survey was the responses to an open-ended question, in which students had the opportunity to express their thoughts on the topic in detail As evidenced by research conducted at various foreign and Ukrainian universities and the aforementioned survey, the level of integration of generative artificial intelligence into students’ everyday educational activities is extremely high. On the one hand, students treat it as a tool for increasing productivity; on the other hand, they understand the ethical consequences, for example, its hidden use when performing tasks to control knowledge or writing creative works, and the risks of degrading their own intellectual skills. An important element of the survey was the open question, which allowed students to express their opinions on the specified topic in detail. Based on the analysis of the survey results, the authors formulated directions for further research, in particular, regarding conducting a similar study among university teachers, and provided practical recommendations regarding policies for using artificial intelligence tools at the university.
