Abstract
This study presents a theoretical analysis and an empirical investigation of the socio-psychological factors influenc-ing students’ readiness for university study. A cross-cul-tural adaptation of three English-language psychodiagnos-tic instruments («A self-directed learning readiness scale, (SDLRS)», «Competence in self-directed learning skills», and the «Self-Directed Learning Scale») was conducted, providing researchers with a reliable Ukrainian-language toolkit for assessing academic readiness. A three-compo-nent empirical structure of students’ readiness for learn-ing has been substantiated, integrating autonomy in organ-izing learning, a desire for new knowledge, and self-con-trol, which allows for a more differentiated approach to assessing a student’s learning potential. It has been estab-lished that subjective satisfaction with academic results is the dominant psychological predictor of overall readi-ness for learning, surpassing factors such as social engagement and commitment to the educational institu-tion in terms of influence. A decisive influence of the lan-guage factor on readiness for learning has been identified, as it has been empirically proven that the status of Ukrain-ian as a second language creates an additional cognitive load, reducing students’ levels of self-organization and cognitive initiative. The functional autonomy of self-con-trol has been demonstrated; within the structure of readi-ness, it does not correlate with organizational skills or mo-tivation but is determined by internal habits
