Abstract
The paper constitutes an analysis of the regional structure or features of the Chinese beef cattle industry, a rarity in academic literature. The development and current status of the industry vary depending on geographical location, regional policy shifts, capital flows and rural labour availability, as well as specific solutions to industry problems, in each region.
The study provides an analytical overview of the interplay between China's national rural policy framework and the specific perspectives and assessments of local business actors. The study goes on to evaluate the performance of the country's primary macro-regions, categorised as the Central Plains, North-East, North-West, and South beef cattle areas. The analysis of the development of China's beef cattle industry in each area is presented. The discussion encompassed the regional supply and demand characteristics, as well as the sustainable development concerns pertinent to the industry economy. The relevant policy trends and facts variety was utilised in order to facilitate an evaluation and perspective on the regional development of the beef cattle industry in each macroregion.
