Abstract
On the background of structural changes and covid-19 pandemic, the problems of trade
in food products are identified and the importance of local production in improving the food selfsufficiency
of the population is substantiated.
The paper studies the impact of international trade on the development of local production and
provides discussion of two alternative strategies: export promotion and import substitution.
Positive aspects of these strategies are evaluated. Conclusions are made and recommendations
are developed regarding the possibilities of increasing local production by promoting export of
food products.
