Abstract
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the volunteer movement has become a critical component of Ukraine’s national security, providing the Armed Forces with material, technical, medical, and logistical support that the state cannot always supply promptly. The study aims to generalize the theoretical and legal foundations of volunteer activity, analyze organizational models of volunteer management, and assess their effectiveness in supporting the military. The results show that Ukrainian volunteering has evolved into a multi-level system distinguished by rapid mobilization, flexible governance, professionalized logistics, and strong public engagement. Statistical data confirm sustained growth in donations and high transparency of major foundations, which serve as a parallel and responsive supply system for the military. Key challenges include burnout, security risks, bureaucratic barriers, and uneven resource distribution. Optimization requires enhanced coordination with the state, unified reporting standards, professionalization of logistics and procurement, digital tools for needs monitoring, and volunteer training. Strengthening these mechanisms will increase the resilience and long-term effectiveness of volunteer support for Ukraine’s defense sector.
