    The author investigates the topic «Discussion as one of the methods in teaching «Business English»» course and presents practical results on the example of teaching «Business English» to the first-year students, specializing in «International relations». Any discussion can be fruitful only in challenging creative environment of good working relations of the teacher and his or her students, openness and atmosphere of encouragement. The lessons are based on online platform MyLab, methodical developments and software, created by methodologists of the Publishing House Pearson and it gives a possibility to the teacher to use a best possible way of preparing the students to master the topic, channeling the class to discussions and creative tasks and their accomplishment. Автор вивчає тему «Дискусія, як один з методів викладання курсу «Ділова англійська мова»» та ділиться практичними висновками на прикладі викладання курсу «Ділова англійська мова» зі студентами І курсу спеціальності «Міжнародні відносини». Дискусія може бути плідною за умовою, що у студентів та викладача складаються гарні творчі стосунки, вільне висловлювання та обмін думками та заохочення. Заняття проходять із використанням комп’ютерної платформи MyLab, методики та підручника, розроблених методистами видавництва Pearson, і це дає можливість викладачеві плідно готувати студентів до закріплення матеріалу, плавно підводячи групу до дискусій та творчих завдань.

    Teaching Business English

    The author underlines the importance of the role of the Business English in the classroom as Business English has attracted increasing interest. Business English must be seen in the overall context of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), as it shares important elements of needs analysis, course design, materials selection and development which are common to all fields of work in ESP. It’s possible to state, that Business English is a specific language corpus and emphasis on particular kinds of communication in a specific context. The teachers should mostly concentrate on the course syllabus, preparing their students to acquire the necessary language skills in different areas. The author dedicates much effort to creating possible ways of developing communicative environment in the classroom. Many ideas on creating the necessary feedback helping the students to understand the importance of their efforts on the way to real life situations have been outlined.

    To the problem of assessing competencies in the process of teaching foreign languages online

    The author has studied the problem of assessment of some competencies in the process of teaching foreign languages online. A lion’s share of assistance under such force majeure circumstances came from Pearson Education Limited that has been for more than 15 years a very reliable, actual, innovative partner of the Foreign Languages and Cross-Cultural Communication Department. The author participated in a 12-hour Online English Language Teacher Training Course, that focuses on the problems of assessment of basic competencies of teaching foreign languages online. A very valuable theoretical document donated by DinternalPearson is the table of international standards on the assessment of basic competencies in the process of teaching foreign languages online. Авторка вивчала тему оцінки деяких компетенцій у процесі викладання іноземних мов онлайн. Левова доля допомоги викладачам під час таких надзвичайних ситуацій, як пандемія, прийшла від компанії Dinternal Pearson, яка протягом більш ніж 15 років є надійним, сучасним, інноваційним партнером викладачів кафедри іноземних мов і міжкультурної комунікації. Авторка брала участь у 12-годинному вебінарі для викладачів англійської мови, присвяченому темі оцінки основних компетенцій при викладанні іноземних мов онлайн. Дуже цінним теоретичним документом, який надає компанія Dinternal Pearson, є таблиця міжнародних стандартів з оцінювання головних мовних компетенцій.
